Virginia Thorn is singer song writer from South East London, with Argentine roots. She is influenced by music from South and North American as well as the British Indie-Pop Scene of the 90's and 00's. She is a classically trained vocalist in the Belle Canto technique and informed by contemporary artists such as Joni Mitchell and Joan Baez. Mitchell is also an influence on her song writing, as well as Tom Waits and Mary Gauthier. She grew up in a household listening to Trad Jazz, Bebop and Blues, alongside Tango and Folklorico. Her musical interests span Rockstedy, Funk, World, Classical, as well as her beloved Folk and Americana. As a song writer she has a love of storytelling and values the human connection that can take place through music. She says, "This can happen through rhythm or melody in a place beyond words, but also through lyrics and poetic ideas which might resonate a universal truth. This, for me, is where the medicine lies. A song which we connect with can translate our individual feeling to the universal plain. Joy is amplified, sorrow is shared and this is the magic of writing and receiving music." For her, the privilege of being a performer is the direct connection it allows with the audience. http://www.virginiathorn.com/
